06-13-15 A&M wedding at Semple Mansion

Read about this event

This was a special wedding day for a couple reasons: #1 the groom was a lifelong friend of my wife, and #2 we love shooting at the Semple Mansion. If you can’t tell from the photos, the Semple is one Minneapolis’ top Mansion style wedding venues. The architecture is beautiful and it’s fairly convenient to get to. For this wedding we headed over to the chain of lakes area for the bridal party/ couple photos. It’s less than a 10 min drive, and there aren’t a lot of outdoor options on the Semple property. Loring Park and the sculpture garden is also very near by if you’re thinking about other options for outdoor photos. For family photos the front steps work well as long as cloudy, otherwise using the main staircase indoors would work great as well. The ballroom on the top floor of the Semple where they host dinner and the dance is gorgeous and it’s nice that they don’t have to do the ceremony and reception’s in the same room.

One feature that we hadn’t seen at a wedding before was during the ceremony the bride and groom practice an African tradition of tasting sour, bitter, hot and sweet spices representing different seasons of marriage. It was something unique, meaningful and made for some fun photos later once the ring bearer and flower girl got into them!

If you’re looking for a Mansion style wedding venue in Minneapolis or St. Paul, the Semple Mansion should definitely be on your short list.
